Graham Rawle’s “The Wizard of Oz”

Graham Rawle’s modern ersion the fairy tale book, “The Wizard of Oz” introduces new characters to the tale.

After the original book was released, The Wizard of Oz was turned into an iconic movie starring Judy Garland and later, a musical called “The Wiz” starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.

Rawle’s reinterpretation is based on the book and not on the movies where many characters were left out.

Written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum, the book became wildly popular. Now, 108 years later, Rawle has produced a really beautiful reinterpretation.

In the gallery we can see the Flying Monkeys, The Cowardly Lion, The Tin Man and a rather wicked depiction of the Witch. The other images show Rawle’s creative process.

The accompanying video is really beautiful and rather engaging.

His depiction of the story is illustrated with dozens of meticulously created dioramas. You’ll meet Graham’s own versions of Dorothy, Toto and their three friends, the Tin Woodman, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow. As the book is based on Frank L Baum’s original novel, rather than the MGM musical spectacular starring Judy Garland, you’ll also encounter a number of characters you may not know, including Kalidahs, the Dainty China People and the Quadlings.
