Braille Watches

Braille Watches - The X-Watch (GALLERY)
The X-Watch

The X- Watch by Damian Kozlik is a sexy X shaped L.E.D. timepiece that is designed for both sighted and blind people.

Blind people can use the X-Watch by moving their fingers along the graduated watch glass which features extruded braille numbers. When a highlighted panel is touched, a sound is heard.

The watch dial is compounded of LEDs under which the IC board is placed. According to Kozlik, “Every segment of the watch glass works like separated touch switch.”

Camera for the Blind

Camera for the Blind - Touch Sight
Touch Sight

The Touch Sight is a brilliant concept camera for the visually impaired. It records sounds and transfers images via 3D embossing technology so that people who can’t see will still have a recording of the sounds of the event and be able to use their sense of touch to “see” the image.

This was one of the winning designs for the 2008 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). The IDEA® program is the premier international competition honoring design excellence in products, ecodesign, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts.

Braille PIN Cards

Visual Assistance Cards for the Blind

Kyle Lechtenberg of Auburn University created these Visual Assistance Cards. Basically, the special cards go on top of touch screen PIN devices at retailers who don’t have Braille keypads. This allow users to input their PIN while keeping their information private. This helps give blind people more independence.

Imagine deprived with your sight and making a store purchase. Everything is in your basket ready to be swiped for its total amount. However, a debit card is all that you have. How will you enter your PIN? Will the clerk have to do it? This innovation solves that problem.
